One of the parts of our inclusive EAP coverage is the ability of managers and supervisors to call us any time for a consultation. When managers and supervisors take advantage of some free and confidential coaching on some of those difficult situations involving their employees, it serves the company, it serves the manager/supervisor, and it serves the employee.
Most managers and supervisors aren't trained to be experts on all of these issues involving the human side of business. They're not supposed to be experts on domestic violence, or addictions, or runaway teens, or infidelity, or elder care, or depression, or anxiety, or suicide, or any of the hundreds of issues we deal with every day. And, even if they are familiar with these issues, when a manager/supervisor gives advice on these issues, it comes across as advice from the company, so it puts the company more at risk if the situation goes badly. It is better for the employee, the manager/supervisor, and ultimately the company, if the manager/supervisor is able to use EAP as a resource and then refer the employee to us for suggestions, assessment, and referrals.
